Yo, I’m Rhythm Doshi

<aside> ⚡ I’m a 17 y/o who has been dabbling around in the energy space for a long time now. My life goal is to bring an infrastructural change and push humanity forward technologically.

I first started delving deep into Quantum Batteries earlier this year in May. Qbatteries was a unique way to store energy by leveraging qubits, I was looking into leveraging Quantum Batteries for the EV Industry to bring down charging times from hours to just 3 minutes.

Although my interests changed gear as I start looking more in to the Nuclear Energy industry in September this year. I fell down a bunch of rabbit holes, explored the Fusion space for a month, later went deep into the Fission Industry and I am currently now working on Reprocessing Nuclear Waste back as fuel in these Fission Reactors.

What peaked my Curiosity

It was this clip from Cleo Abram’s Video on “The Big Lie About Nuclear Waste”.

Watch it:

We are talking powering all households, factories, buildings, etc for the next 1.5 centuries. This absolutely shocked me & immediately caught my attention rather shed light on the untapped potential of this industry, which was reprocessing all this Nuclear Waste that we’ve accumulated to contribute in solving our age-old Energy problem of providing clean energy as efficiently as possible.

Let’s dive deeper.

Status Quo: Nuclear Waste

<aside> ⚠️ - Currently, just in the United States alone, there is 86,000 tons of Nuclear Waste lying around in casks in nuclear power plants & other nuclear facilities & every year there is an addition of 2000 more tons.

→ Nuclear waste is a serious problem that if not managed appropriately could be a threat to our civilization.

→ There has been multiple projects that have been proposed regarding the disposal of nuclear waste in Deep Geological Repositories (DGRs) which is a deep hole drilled into Earth where nuclear waste is kept for hundreds of thousands of years to safely let it’s radioactivity decay

→ As of now we k eep our nuclear waste in dry casks/silos in wet /dry storage facilities.

The architecture of a Deep Geological Repository (DGR)→ The problem here is that we currently don’t have a DGR & the first one is set to open in Finland by Q2 of 2024.

→ This waste is piling up & is filling up our storage facilities extremely fast especially due to the surge of new reactors & with the contribution of nuclear energy to our world’s energy consumption to already hit 10% which is 1/10th of all our world’s energy consumption.

→ Neither DGRs nor storing it in on-land facilities is a sustainable/safe option.
